The Child & Family Centre |
|
Our Child and Family Centre in Govan
is a place of welcome and warmth at the heart of the community
in an area where there are few resources and much need.
The Child and Family Centre offers support for children
and their families by providing, in partnership with Glasgow
City Council, Little Branches Nursery which includes a toddler
group for pre-school children. We also run The ARK After-School
Club during term time and school holidays. It is located
in the Linthouse area of Govan and is an integral part of
the local community.
The Centre also offers care and assistance for parents
and carers and encourages them to develop their own skills
by offering Community Education led training on child development,
positive parenting and computer skills. We aim to demonstrate
the love of God through our work with children and families
in Govan.
Our Manager, Anne Scott, has helped create a special atmosphere
at the Centre. Having worked in Linthouse for over 20 years
means that Anne knows many people in the area and knows
how best to respond to the many needs that they have. Anne
and the team have worked hard to create an environment that
is both welcoming and exciting. |
| The support of the local community is vital for the
ongoing success of our Centre. Each year there are a number
of fundraising events, including a fun-day, sponsored cycle
and a bring-and-buy sale. These events are very well supported
by the parents whose children attend the Centre and by the
wider community.
The demand for childcare in the area is strong. Each year
we offer childcare to over 90 children and their families,
with many more on our waiting list whom we just can’t
take in. The service we provide is increasingly vital, providing
quality childcare in an area where it is desperately needed.

'Graduation day' is a time to celebrate!
|
Little Branches Nursery
is run in partnership with Glasgow City Council and provides
high quality pre-school education in a safe, stimulating
and welcoming environment. The nursery is open 5 mornings
and two afternoons a week. |
|
We seek to provide learning experiences
which allow children to develop as healthy, confident individuals
who have a positive attitude towards learning. The centre
is extremely well equipped with a variety of learning areas
set up to encourage the all-round development of the children.
Outside there is a soft-play area that allows the children
to play outside when the weather allows!
Parents are encouraged to become involved in their children’s
education, many offering their services as volunteers and
some employed as sessional workers.

"What shall I paint next?"
|
The ARK is an After-School Club for
children of primary school age. Open during term time and
school holidays, we offer quality, affordable childcare
to help children in their educational and personal development
as enabling parents to go to work or attend further education.
In an area of high unemployment there is a real lack of
childcare available, which can prevent parents working.
The ARK grew out of a very genuine need in the local community
for after school care and we are very pleased to be offering
this service to meet their needs. By serving the community
in this way, we are demonstrating the very practical Christian
care that is always at the heart of our work.
All staff who work in both projects hold, or are working
towards, a recognised childcare qualification.
You can download the policies for Little
Branches or The
ARK here.
