Giving a helping hand

"Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one.  Wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine and go after the one you lost until you found it?"   - Luke 15 v4

The Shieling

The Shieling is our centre where we care for some of the most vulnerable people in Glasgow. Homeless people, women involved in prostitution, victims of violence and abuse and those from deprived communities can find a place of safety and the beginnings of a new life.

We provide:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • One to one support
  • Advocacy
  • Medical care
  • Prison support
  • Pastoral Care
  • Clubs, activities and trips

On the evenings we open, our services are available from 8pm – 10.30pm on a drop-in basis, providing food, drinks, clothes and medical care.

The healthy option is proving popular

We see around 80 people each night that we are open, most of whom are men. A lot of the people we see are unemployed and many have alcohol or drug problems. We help many people who are living in hostels or bed-and-breakfast accommodation and some who have experienced periods of sleeping rough.

The Shieling provides one-to-one support for individuals as well as a programme of activities and learning opportunities.

On a cold night a hot drink is very welcome

During the day, The Shieling also provides one-to-one support for individuals as well as a programme of activities and learning opportunities. New classes include IT training and Salsa. There is also a Young Men’s club, an Older Men’s lunch club as well as cycling activities, a film club and various women only clubs.

We also provide access to medical services, counselling and vital information and advice. Through our relationship with other agencies in the city, we are able to assist people with housing issues and drug or alcohol problems. We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who are committed to serve God by helping some of the most vulnerable in our city.

  Donating Food

We are always looking for tins of food, which we give out at The Shieling. We need:

• Beans & Spaghetti

We are always looking for charity donations of tins of food which we give out out at The Shieling.

• Ravioli & Macaroni Cheese

• Soups & Puddings

• Meat & Fish

It is more helpful to us if you could only bring us tins of food, as we can’t use rice, pasta, etc. If you have a collection of food to drop off, please bring it to our office.
