We have an internship scheme for our guests who have demonstrated that they are ready for more responsibility. This enables them to get paid work with us along with an SVQ in social or child care.
These roles provide opportunities to increase their people skills, build confidence and gain valuable work experience. We also like our interns to get new and exciting experiences so yesterday Anthony and James went on a flight in a light Cessna aircraft piloted by Alistair MacKinnon, who is a friend of Phil Wray our Head of Projects.
Phil told us: “We were all wearing our headsets and got to hear the conversation with Air Traffic Control. We took off from Glasgow Airport, headed west down the Clyde, did a loop over Dumbarton and flew back over the Erskine Bridge. Anthony got to sit in the front and got a real feel for how Alistair was flying the plane. We had to do some slow turns above Bishopton whilst we joined the queue to land behind some big EasyJet planes. Then on landing, James helped Alistair refuel the plane.”
James said: “I was really excited when I heard we were going and we had a beautiful day for it. I thought I would be nervous but when we got into the air and saw the amazing views it was just a blessing.”
And Anthony said: “It was a great opportunity which was also a learning experience as Alistair explained all about the plane. I got to sit at the front and get a real feel for how Alistair was flying the plane. At first I was nervous but I absolutely loved it!”
We give our thanks and a big shout out to Leading Edge Flight Training (https://left.aero/) who took excellent care of our guys and gave them such a memorable trip.
