As we approach our 200th anniversary, we thought it would be appropriate to tell the story of the world’s first city mission.

Glasgow City Mission was founded on 1st January 1826, by a young, evangelical Christian called David Nasmith in response to poverty, overcrowding and addiction in the city. Glasgow is the original City Mission and David then set up others throughout the UK and the Americas turning it into a worldwide movement.

This video documents the diverse nature of our work over the last two centuries and then brings our story right up-to-date with details of our three current projects. Our Child and Family Centre has been a major part of the Govan community since 1987; we have our city centre building in Crimea Street and our Overnight Welcome Centre opens for four months each year.

We hope you enjoy our story.
