On Sunday 24 July, staff from Glasgow City Mission attended the ‘Communi-T in the Park’ event hosted by local organisation Friends of Elder Park.

We had a marquee with display boards showing the development of our newly established garden at the north-west corner of the park, and how it has benefitted the children and families that attend our Child and Family Centre.

There was also information on our proposed new development to the rear of this garden area. We invited those attending the event to fill out feedback forms to express their opinions on the garden, which for many years had existed as an overgrown wasteland bordered by high walls and anti-climb spurs. We also asked residents to give their views on our proposal to convert the space behind the garden. Our plan is to see this section of the park transformed into a community hub dedicated to outdoor learning in a safe and friendly environment.

We received 53 responses, which were overwhelmingly positive, as were our discussions with local residents. We look forward to continuing to engage with both the local community and city council regarding our proposal which we hope will benefit the families of Govan and Linthouse for many years to come.
