We held our Art Viewing at the beautiful, festive Ballroom in Sloan’s just off Argyle Street on 20 December.
This fabulous setting allowed us to display a number of artworks but also meant we could project a slide show highlighting our artists and their work in progress throughout the year. The slideshow was loving put together by Wilma van der Meyden who leads our Friday art class. Wilma was supported on the day by Jill Morrison, Aidrian Novion from Turn the Tables, Alan Paton, Ann McKinlay, Helen Saunders, Thomas Paton, and Paul Glassford. We were also grateful to the Wild Olive Tree café and St George’s Tron Church, who lent us some easels to display the paintings.
We had a consistently high number of attendees during the event and were thrilled to sell 17 of our guests’ artworks. As we only retain a 10% admin fee, each sale resulted in these guests receiving 90% of the sale price, which was greatly appreciated.
The idea for the viewing came from Lucas Elliott who also hosted a club event with his friends for our guests’ benefit in Sub Club on the same evening. When thanking Lucas for his support, Clare O’Sullivan our Urban Co-ordinator said, “Our artists were really blown away by the event, and so encouraged by the number of people taking an interest in their work. It was a very special way to finish up for the year.”
Keep a look out on our social media for the next opportunity to view and purchase some fabulous artwork from Glasgow City Mission’s guests!
