Could you help people find a route out of rough sleeping?

Are you passionate about helping people at risk of rough sleeping during the coldest winter months?

We’re seeking staff who are motivated to tackle the problem of homelessness, with the skills to create a welcoming environment for people with complex needs.

The Glasgow Overnight Welcome Centre anticipates receiving hundreds of guests seeking refuge and a warm, safe place to sleep. This role focuses particularly on helping guests access emergency housing and connecting them with the services they need.

About the role

Connecting guests with emergency housing

Working under the direction of the Winter Project Manager, you will help deliver Glasgow City Mission's Overnight Welcome Centre as part of a small team of staff and volunteers.

You will link in with guests who need help accessing emergency housing, engage with people attending the City Centre Project dinner drop-in, and work with relevant services to identify accommodation options.

This includes liaising with the Glasgow City Council HSCP Out of Hours team, welcoming and registering guests, collecting relevant information and providing a clear handover to the Overnight Welcome Centre team.

You will also provide an important link between the City Centre Project and the Overnight Welcome Centre.

Working pattern

Evening support through the winter

Typical shifts are Monday to Friday, 16:30 to 21:30.

This is a fixed-term role from 1 December 2026 until 31 March 2027, with paid accrued annual leave on a pro-rata basis.

Successful candidates must also be available for training from 16–20 November 2026.

Training will cover areas including the homelessness system, personal safety, first aid, suicide prevention and overdose prevention.

What you'll bring

Patience, communication and practical problem-solving

You will need to be able to interact positively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including people whose lives may currently be challenging or chaotic.

The role requires good verbal communication skills, the ability to diffuse challenging situations, computer literacy, self-motivation and the ability to work well within a team.

Previous experience in health, social care, community or rehabilitation work is desirable. Knowledge of homelessness, substance misuse and the services available to people experiencing these issues is also desirable.
