Are you passionate about helping people at risk of rough sleeping during the coldest winter months?

We’re seeking staff who are motivated to tackle the problem of homelessness, with the skills to create a welcoming environment for people with complex needs.

The Glasgow Overnight Welcome Centre anticipates receiving hundreds of guests seeking refuge and a warm, safe place to sleep. As a Team Member, you will help ensure that guests are welcomed, supported and treated with dignity throughout their time with us.

About the role

Creating a safe and welcoming place

Working under the direction of the Winter Project Manager and the leadership of a Team Lead, you will be part of a small team of staff and volunteers delivering Glasgow City Mission's Overnight Welcome Centre.

The focus of the night shift is to create a warm, safe and welcoming environment where guests can sleep. You will welcome and register guests, collect relevant information, monitor wellbeing and help provide services such as breakfast and welfare checks.

You will also help guests identify a route out of rough sleeping, supporting move-on plans under the supervision of the Team Lead and working alongside partner agencies. Cases can be complex and require good communication, patience and sound judgement.

Working pattern

Five nights on, five nights off

Overnight Team Member shifts run from 19:30 to 07:30 on a five days on, five days off rotation.

This is a fixed-term role from 1 December 2026 until 31 March 2027, with paid accrued annual leave on a pro-rata basis.

Successful candidates must also be available for training from 16–20 November 2026. Training will cover the homelessness system, personal safety, first aid, suicide prevention and overdose prevention.

What you'll bring

Patience, teamwork and great people skills

You will need the ability to interact positively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including people whose lives may currently be challenging or chaotic.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, communicates well and can work effectively as part of a team while helping create a positive working environment for colleagues and volunteers.

Previous experience in health, social care, community or rehabilitation work is desirable, as is knowledge of homelessness and issues relating to drug and alcohol misuse. Experience of supporting volunteers is also desirable.
