Volunteer

people at Glasgow City Mission

Volunteering - It's a people thing.

We have more than 150 dedicated volunteers giving their time and skills to help support our work. We couldn't even begin to measure their value and impact.

We are looking for people all year round

We are looking for people who have a desire to help, are good listeners and have a heart for those in need in our city.

Because we seek to build meaningful relationships with our guests, we do not accept volunteers just for Christmas and instead look for an all-year round commitment.

Volunteers should be in sympathy with our Christian ethos and have an active Christian faith.

Volunteering Opportunities

We have the following volunteering opportunities at our projects:

Volunteering

City Centre Project volunteering

Evening opportunities to be part of the team that helps provide food and support to homeless and vulnerable adults. Opportunities exist right now across each of our evening teams and Saturday afternoons.

Day time opportunities to help at one of our clubs or activities. Right now, we're particularly in need of more volunteers to help in our kitchen, to support our Urban cafe space on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Serve with a dedicated team
  • Participate in a practical expression of Christian Mission
  • Provide stability for vulnerable people living chaotic lives
  • Help people move forward in their lives
  • Witness the joy of lives transformed
  • Be part of a life-giving process

We need people with a variety of life skills, from IT, to creative arts, language skills to cooking. Above all we need people who can sit down and have a chat with someone over a cup of coffee.

  • Twilight 9pm – 12 midnight:
extra help for when it’s busy, supporting guests to quickly and safely enter the shelter.

  • Sunrise 6.45am – 8am:
extra help for the morning rush, waking guests, providing breakfast, and clearing away mattresses.

Application process

We are supporting some very vulnerable adults and children that we want to protect, so potential volunteers have to go through three steps below before being accepted:

  2. An informal interview
  3. Disclosure Scotland / Protection of Vulnerable Groups Checks

  • Let justice roll down like waters

Following reports that up to 300 asylum seekers in Glasgow could have their locks changed and be evicted, we’re reminded of the biblical call to speak truth to power.
