When Ruth joined Glasgow City Mission, she chose to put her faith into action. She had recently retired and wanted to find a meaningful way to use the time she had now been blessed with.

Serving our community at the Mission every week was Ruth’s way of spreading the love of Christ to the people of Glasgow. She is inspired by the people she meets here who have gone through so much in their lives but remain passionate about adding value to the people and world around them.

Ruth volunteers at Urban, our project for those who have passed the crisis point in their lives and are ready to heal and rebuild. She has helped out at IT, art and pottery sessions by making our guests hot drinks, snacks and most importantly, chatting to them. Ruth always aims to make the people she meets feel welcome and wanted, because this is the treatment they deserve. She hopes that this reminds them of their worth and builds their confidence.

While Ruth gives so much of her time to the Mission, she believes that volunteering has given her a lot in return. It has given her the opportunity to get to know guests, volunteers and staff that she would have otherwise never met, and learn about the world through the unique perspectives of each of these individuals.

We are so grateful for the eleven years that Ruth has been a part of our Glasgow City Mission community, and we are looking forward to the years to come.
